The Oscars

The Oscars are like the Super Bowl meets New Year's Eve for Hollywood. And as such there was no end to the parade of parties that swept the city leading up to Sunday night’s awards ceremony.
Two of the most entertaining pre-parties were Thursday night’s Vanity Fair Campaign Hollywood soiree at Cecconi’s, and the Grey Goose pre-Oscar party at the Chateau Marmont on Saturday night.
The former, called “Una Notte Verde,” was a sleek cocktail party hosted by Hans Zimmer and Ron Howard. Passed trays of steak tartare and endless waves of Champagne lubricated a star-shiny crowd that included Adrien Brody, Michael Moore, Alyssa MilanoJosh Hartnett and Kathleen York.

Moore spent some time talking with Emad Burnat, the Palestinian co-director of the Oscar-nominated documentary “5 Broken Cameras.”
After singing Burnat’s praises, Moore said that this year’s documentary category was the most exciting ever because it was the first time that all the members of the academy got to vote in it.
“The new process should open documentaries up to a whole new level of competition and appreciation,” said Moore.
On Saturday night, the Grey Goose party was hosted by Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Doug Wald, along with WME’s Warren Zavala and Mandate Pictures President Nathan Kahane.
The dance floor was hectic, the passed hors d'oeuvres many and the vodka-fueled conversation plenty as guests includingJohn Krasinski, Emma Watson, Tobey Maguire, Josh Hartnett, Benji and Joel MaddenAnna FarisJanuary Jonesand Joaquin Phoenix appeared and disappeared in various corners of the iconic hotel lobby, bar and garden.
But the best sighting of the night went to Russell Brand and Morrissey, who could be seen talking intensely in a tucked-away booth at the very back of the lobby bar.
